St Peter's
St Peter's Brewery Kits
St Peter's Brewery brews in the grounds of St Peter's Hall at St Peter South Elmham, near Bungay in Suffolk — you will know their distinctive oval bottles if you have seen them on the shelf. The kits are made under licence by Muntons (whose maltings are just down the road in Stowmarket), shaped and approved by the brewery's own head brewer to match the commercial beers.
Each kit is 3kg of malt extract in two cans, with yeast under the lid. No sugar is needed — the malt does all the work. Each beer brews to its own length: the Ruby Red makes the full 40 pints, the others brew deliberately short — 32 to 36 pints — producing fewer pints and stronger brews.
The beers we stock:
- Ruby Red Ale — the first kit St Peter's released. A tawny red ale, subtle malt with a spicy hop aroma. 4.3%
- Golden Ale — light golden ale with a fresh, delicate, grainy after-taste. 4.7%
- IPA — full bodied and zesty, the short-brewed one. 5.5%
- Cream Stout — dark chocolate cream stout with a bittersweet aftertaste. 5.0%
- Plum Porter — sweet porter, jammy damson and blackcurrant. The newest in the range. 5%
Like the Woodfordes kits, these are brewery-badged no sugar kits at a middling price — a solid step up from the budget single-can ranges without going to Flagship money.
