Muntons Flagship

Muntons Flagship Range

The six Muntons Flagship kraft carry-boxes on a wooden bench: Hazy IPA, West Coast IPA, American Pale Ale, American Amber Ale, Kolsch Style Beer and Citra Wheat Beer, each with its stacked three-word flavour descriptor and a glass of the beer.

Flagship is the top of the Muntons own-brand ranges, taking the spot once held by Premium Gold and later the Handcrafted range. Where the older ranges chased classic English styles, Flagship is aimed squarely at modern hop-forward beers — the sort of thing you would find on the craft bar rather than the handpull.

Each kit contains 3kg of malt extract, a named Fermentis yeast, and — the point of the range — proper hop pellet sachets to add yourself, with instructions for late and dry hop additions. No sugar is needed (the West Coast IPA is the exception: a 1kg bag of brewing sugar comes in the box to push it to 7%). Most of the kits brew short at 35 pints rather than the usual 40, which keeps the body up (the Kolsch alone brews the full 40).

The beers we stock:

  • Hazy IPA — New England style, 56g Citra and 60g Mosaic pellets, S-04 yeast. Citrus, grapefruit and stone fruit. 5%
  • West Coast IPA — Chinook, Columbus and Summit pellets, resinous and piney. The strongest in the range at 7%, brewing sugar included.
  • American Pale Ale — Amarillo and Cascade, biscuity malt behind the citrus. 4.5%
  • American Amber Ale — Cascade and Centennial over a toffee-ish malt base with a caramel finish. 4.5%
  • Citra Wheat Beer — a wheat beer with 56g of Citra and WB-06 wheat yeast. 5%
  • Kolsch — a limited edition. Saaz and Hallertau, K-97 yeast; crisp and clean. 4.8%

These are the dearest kits Muntons make, and it shows in the box: pellets, decent yeast, and no corners cut. If you drink mostly bitter and mild, start with the Muntons Gold range instead — Flagship is for when you want hops front and centre.
