Muntons Connoisseurs Range

The nine Muntons Connoisseurs kit cans in two rows on a wooden bench: Traditional Bitter, IPA Bitter, Nut Brown Ale, Export Stout, Export Pilsner, Continental Lager, Bock Beer, Summer Ale and Winter Ale, each with its own label colours.

Connoisseurs is the mid-priced Muntons range: a single 1.8kg can of 100% hopped malt extract — no cheap barley syrup — to which you add 1kg of sugar to make 40 pints. Swap the sugar for a Muntons Beer Kit Enhancer and you get noticeably more body and a better head for about a pound more; we would, every time.

Where the Gold range sticks to four classic styles, Connoisseurs covers the map — English ales alongside continental lagers and a Bavarian bock. The beers we stock:

  • Traditional Bitter — the classic English ale, well hopped with a rich malty flavour. Serve at cellar temperature.
  • IPA Bitter — light and delicately balanced; an ideal thirst-quencher.
  • Nut Brown — dark and smooth brown ale with a slightly nutty character.
  • Summer Ale — golden ale from wheat and barley; malty backbone, subtle fruity notes.
  • Winter Ale — limited edition, lightly spiced with cardamom and coriander. 6%
  • Export Stout — strong, very dark and very hoppy.
  • Export Pilsner — full-bodied Bohemian-style lager.
  • Continental Lager — light amber, hoppy, modelled on mainland European beers.
  • Bock Beer — the dark lager of Bavaria; lager character with the body of a dark beer.
