Winexpert
Winexpert make the best wine kits we sell. The company started in Canada in the mid-1980s as BrewKing, and today is part of Global Vintners, the wine-kit arm of Andrew Peller — one of Canada's biggest wine producers, with roots in the Niagara region of Ontario. They have been at the top of the home winemaking trade for as long as we have been selling their kits. | ![]() |
All Winexpert kits are no-sugar kits: the boxes hold real grape juice and concentrate, plus the yeast, finings and stabilisers, and each makes 23 litres — a full 30 bottles. The difference between the ranges comes down to how much juice is doing the work: the more juice and the less dilution, the more flavour, body and ageing potential in the glass.
The ranges we stock:
- Classic — the sensible place to start. Straightforward to make and ready to bottle in about four weeks. We stock the Chilean Malbec (blackberry, black plum and spice) and the Spanish Tempranillo (strawberry, plum and vanilla) — both dry reds at 13%.
- Reserve — the step up: 10 litres of juice and concentrate in the box and six weeks to bottling, for noticeably fuller wines. We stock the Australian Cabernet Sauvignon (13.5%, full bodied with powerful tannins), Australian Cabernet Shiraz (13.5%, blackberry, dark chocolate and smoke), Italian Amarone Style (13.5%, black fig, cherry and chocolate) and the Australian Traminer Riesling (12%, off-dry and floral — the white of the bunch).
Winexpert also make an ultra-premium Private Reserve tier (14 litres of juice, six to eight weeks) which we do not currently stock — ask if you are interested.
If you have made Winexpert kits before under the Selection or Island Mist names: those ranges were discontinued when Winexpert reorganised their line-up. Classic and Reserve are today's equivalents, and old Selection hands will feel most at home with a Reserve kit.
